Foolamancy is one of the three disciplines of the Magic class Eyemancy; it is aligned with the axis of Numbers and composed of the two elements of Life and Motion.Erf-b1-p038aSame-site.PNG

Proposed Canon

Foolamancy is a form of magic that revolves around mental illusions and what units perceive. It essentially feeds other units stories of what the Foolamancer wants them to see, and their own minds fill in the rest.


Veiling Units or even Cities, disguising things as something else.
Sensorial Illusions
Can manipulate the senses to create large scale illusions and sounds at high volume levels, as when Jack Snipe creates a gigantic projection of Stanley and "plays" martial music during the celebration of Stanley's return to Gobwin Knob. Along the same lines, it can also simulate taste and touch. It can even be used to fool ruler sense. Foolamancers can selectively project illusions that can be perceived by only a single unit.
Sensorial Transfer
Transfer a mental image of the Foolamancer's own sight to another unit, which can be very useful if said unit has been blinded. They can also see what another unit sees, including hallucinations.
Veil Detection
Can detect veiled units such as archons LIAB Text 6
Light Beacon
Which provides light in the form of a orb or flames. It can also be used to track people. A Foolamancer needn't actually be aware of their target's location to cast on them. Nor does the target actually need to see the illusion. As such, a Foolamancer could, for example, create a beacon of light that only the target (and the Foolamancer) can see above the target's head. Even if something obscures said beacon from the target, the Foolamancer can still follow it to the person being tracked.IPTSF Text 77

Known Spells

The caster makes a stack invisible, and creates a holographic projection of that stack some distance away. The image behaves as the stack, and reveals the stack just as it is, with no changes, so enemies can see the strength and composition, as well as the action, of the stack, but are misled as to its location.Erf-b2-p7Same-site.PNG
The stack(s) are visually obscured, but may still be targeted. It's unclear how much of a defense bonus this gives, but would make it difficult or impossible to target individual units.Erf-b2-p36Same-site.PNG

Known Foolamancers

Some Archons, like Bonnie, have the foolamancy special and can therefore cast some foolamancy spells, even though they are not full Foolamancers.


It is suggested that chances to see through a veil are determined by the number of units veiled multiplied by the number of warlords looking. In Page 107Erf-b1-p107Same-site.PNG there are 11 warlords looking for "30 or so" units giving around 300 chances. A direct multiplication would give 330 chances for that particular stack to find 30 veiled units.

Another explanation for "330 chances" is that each warlord rolls once against each veiled unit that it might see. If the roll is a success, that warlord sees that unit. The chances of winning that roll would therefore still be unknown.

Jack's statement that all Eyemancers must, by necessity, look means that a Foolamancer must know what is there in order to effectively create an illusion of what is not there.
