First Appearance: LIAB Prologue 19
Prince Ossomer was a Royal Warlord of Gobwin Knob and the former Chief Warlord and Heir of Jetstone. He was tall, with black hair, blue eyes, and thick eyebrows. He wore a breastplate and a cape, and carried a sabre.Erf-b2-p03-p6. Prince Ossomer was croaked by Lady Sylvia Lazarus and decrypted by Wanda during the Battle of the Expository Bridge. As a Decrypted unit, his armor plate was black and he seemed to have no cape.
During the ensuing battle at Spacerock, just prior to the tower's collapse, Ossomer suddenly became the first Decrypted unit to revert its livery and allegiance back to Jetstone. This was not explained in comic, but happened as Wanda escaped to the Magic Kingdom with the Arkenpliers through Spacerock's portal.Erf-b2-p73 However, his renewed role as a Jetstone Warlord quickly came to an apparent end at the hands of the Decrypted Archons, who literally pulled the carpet out from under him as he screened for his Ruler over the ruins of the tower.Erf-b2-p78 He turned to dust rather than leave a body, so he was still a Decrypted unit.
Ossomer was one of the few people in Jetstone to really get along with Ace.
While the rest of the Jetstone court wanted Ace to keep doing what Holly Shortcake had done before him, Ossomer was the only Chief Warlord to allow him a modicum of freedom in his creations. Although still expected to create Cloth Golems and raiment, Ossomer didn't stop him from creating accessories like the bracer blaster.
Ossomer was Slately's youngest son, and as a shining example of what a Jetstone Royal was expected to be, favored by his father.
It upset Slately greatly to see Ossomer Decrypted and on the side of Gobwin Knob, which when coupled with Ossomer's already conflicted feelings about his new Side and their tactics, helped him to turn back, something completely unknown for a Decrypted to do before.
Slately and Ossomer bonded one last time fighting Gobwin Knob's Archons, before Ossomer was dusted.
According to his own (perhaps exaggerated) opinions of himself, Ossomer is similar to Dhrystone: It was built much as he himself was: tall, hard, chiseled, majestic, and quietly, implicitly violent.
Additionally, he has a magic bracer on his left arm that generates a teleforce attack. The attack used the phrase "Tesla", a reference to the famous inventor Nikola Tesla who created the Tesla coil, an electric generator, and the "teleforce" charged particle beam projector.
The reversion of Ossomer's colors, from those of Wanda's decrypted forces to those of Jetstone, may indicate that he was no longer decrypted. On the other hand, the apparent black cloud of dust when he crashes into the Jetstone Atrium floor, may indicate that he still was.
Ossomer's first campaign as Chief Warlord was against Haggar. When King Slately's diplomatic efforts to persuade King Dickie to join the Royal Crown Coalition failed, Ossomer was forced to respond to Haggar's invasion. Ossomer's response was an elaborate and ultimately successful strategic bluff. Despite the fact that Jetstone's forces had been severely depleted by their defeat at Gobwin Knob, Ossomer invaded Haggar and managed to panic King Dickie to the point where he agreed to join the RCC. This suggests that Ossomer is a far more subtle strategist than his appearance and straightforward manner might suggest. He favors the production of infantry over Heavy Units like Gumps.
Real World References
Ossomer's physical appearance has several visual reference sources. One of them being DC Comics superhero Superman, who also featured a spitcurl, red cape, imposing height, square jawline, and a uniform that makes him look like he wears his underwear (in this case armored underwear) on the outside of his pants. The other reference is Lincoln Stern from the animated movie Heavy Metal.
His name seems to be a slurring of the (non-)word "Awesomer". As in, "The new chief warlord is awesomer than the last one". His square jaw and unyielding personality also are evoked by the fact that his name is similar to the word "ossify" (to turn into bone).
