I think there is to much info displayed in this template.

The previous [<number>] version wasn't unreasonable.

I have reduced the amount of text and added [ ] brackets. --Raphfrk 12:20, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

That non-blued close-bracket bothers me. Please fix--BarGamer 14:49, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
... So you've replaced erf- with """"? Ew, dude.--BarGamer 15:32, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Was just temporary. Btw, is there a way to get 'preview' to actually work with the templates? I had to make the edit and then click on a random other page to get it to update. --Raphfrk 15:49, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Yay, it fixed! It looks so beautiful now! ^_^--BarGamer 16:06, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
When editting, I found it helpful to have Copy-ed {{erf|1|, mouse-select everything up to the page number, and just Paste. Tack on the last two brackets, and I'm done.--BarGamer 15:32, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
I just realized that I just Mung-ed up all the addresses for all these links I'm doing. Jamie and Rob have the Klogs in the archives as a different numbering system, so any link above comic 37(Klog#1) is wrong. BOOP! What should I do now? Ok, ok, here's what I'll do. I'll just keep doing what I'm doing, and whoever wants to come along behind me and do Panel# and notes, can fix it. Subtract the number of Klogs, or something. That way, at least I'm making the same mistake consistently. What do you think?--BarGamer 17:13, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
The problem is we won't know which ones were included by you and which weren't, making it potluck --Doran 17:45, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, true. I'll just work off of my Contribs page, and go back through them in order. BOOP me in the BOOP! I'll use the GITP archive page numbers as a resource. (Subtract the number of Klogs, HAHAHA, what was I thinking?) That'll teach me to play on a wiki when I should be sleeping...--BarGamer 17:55, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
OK! I finally fixed all of my erroneous links. I'm never making THAT mistake again.--BarGamer 02:32, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Issues with certain characters in comment

From Talk:Style Guidelines:

Stumbled onto a bug in the Erf template. If you do 'erf|1|0xx|whatever [something] whatever' and then hit "Preview", clicking on the edit window will send you to the comic 0xx. Freaky. Just a heads up... don't put [ ] into the hovers. --Kreistor 20:25, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

[] characters are used to create external links by the wiki software, so if you use want to use the literal characters you need to wrap them in <nowiki></nowiki> tags. Failure to do so can have unforeseen consequences, as you discovered. I might adjust the template to do that automatically for the title. —RevenantTalk 04:45, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Wait, no, can't. Guess I'd better update the documentation. —RevenantTalk 04:49, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

More wikification

This is a cool template, but IMO it should link to wiki information, not just to an outside URL, at least as an option. I wonder if we could set up a way to link to the annotation for a page, or to a specific panel in the page itself, given that eventually every panel of the comic will be wikied. This might be best as a longer-term goal, since currently barely more than 10% of the comic is wikified. I'm not certain the best way to do that yet, just tossing around thoughts. --> ERK!|eyeBook me 21:37, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

We should be able to do this pretty easily, as long as the annotation pages are rationally named. —RevenantTalk 02:28, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

ArchiveLink template

I've changed around the code a little to support a new template I came up with. It's based heavily off of the TBFGK page info template and will allow us to refer to story sections better than the former Erf template. See the documentation of the new template for more information.--Ichthus (eyeBook) 23:22, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Footnote Length

The visible footnotes generated by the template are a bit lengthy, IMO disrupting the readability of the text (especially when a sentence has more than one erf-template links). I'd suggest condensing the displayed footnote to a shorter text (e.g. "erf"), perhaps with a mouseover display of the full info. SteveMB 21:22, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Link to Annotations?

I'd find it more useful if the link was to the wiki Annotations page, rather than the archive page. Anyone else think so?–Dan Hoeytalk 03:37, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Agreed. I think it would be best if the link went to the archive page inside the Wiki with an external link at the end, eg. Erf-TBfGK-002-p9 [{{{3}}}?px=%2FBook_1/2.jpg]. I also think this template should be redesigned to include the text updates, both the summer intermissions and book 2 text updates, eg. {{erf|2|Text|5}} and {{erf|summer|6}} for example. I can make these changes myself but it's significant work and a large change (existing uses of the Erf template shouldn't need to be changed but it will render Template:Blog redundant), what does anyone else think? 10:32, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
