Sizemore, Maggie, and Wanda are seen from directly above, little more than the tops of their heads visible, as they stand near the table.
This panel extends to the edge of the page in three directions, with Panel 4 underneath, separated by a black line.
Maggie: There is a feeling. You may no longer notice it.
But think of the first spell you ever cast.
When you cast within your disclipline, there is a sense of warmth, comfort, familiarity.
I want you to relax, and recall that feeling.
Find the feel of your discipline, and step inside it. Lose yourself to it. Become your function.
Sizemore, Maggie, and Wanda stand side by side. Maggie is holding up both hands, and the other two are each lifting the hand facing Maggie, almost but not quite yet touching.|||
A close view of two linked hands, with white and violet lines radiating from them.|||
A cross-section view of the volcano on which Gobwin Knob sits, showing the cracks in the underlying rock, little gleaming pockets of gems, and the main channel leading down to the magma well. Several images of Wanda and Sizemore float around the scene. The images are rendered in violet and white, and are of varying size (but all much larger than lifesize, and of a scale comparable to that of the mountain itself). At the bottom of the frame, images of Sizemore's right side and Wanda's left side cooperate to pull at the sides of the magma chamber, expanding it and opening a path to the surface.
The two previous panels were inserts over the top portion of this panel, which extends to the edge of the page in three directions and borders Panel 1 on top.
Wanda Firebaugh: A lifeless thing.
But once alive.
It could be made to move again.
I touch it, and I know.
But... I do not understand what of it should move, Dirtamancer.
No muscle, no spine.
Sizemore Rockwell: It has those things!
I know this mountain!
Every crack and seam.
Or so I thought!
I feel so much more of it now.
I will show you, Croakamancer.
Touch the mountain's heart...
Wanda Firebaugh: Yes.
Sizemore Rockwell: So beautiful.
See me make it beat.
