This is a reference page for all historical instances of caster links.

Proposed Canon

Two Casters

A two-caster linkup was a less risky and drastic thing than three, especially when done voluntarily. In it, the Thinkamancer's function was something like "cognitive copilot," managing the other caster's mental functions, focusing his attention and boosting his energy to achieve better results than the caster could alone.

Thinkamancer/Carnymancer

This link is forbidden by both the Great Minds That Think Alike and the Code of the Carnies.

Casters involved

Abilities

  • Create a "room" in the mind to keep secrets in.

Thinkamancer/Dirtamancer

Casters involved

Abilities

  • Upgrade a City with better results than by a Dirtamancer alone.[1]

Thinkamancer/Dollamancer

Casters involved

Abilities

  • Was able to create a hide golem that borrowed several of Bunny's g-strings, giving it sapience and allowing it to transmit its senses back to her.

Thinkamancer/Foolamancer

Casters involved

Abilities

  • Investigate Eyebooks for security holes, make security improvements, and upgrade them to become able to project 3D Foolamancy.

Thinkamancer/Thinkamancer

Casters involved

Abilities

  • A pair of linked Thinkamancers standing in different nodes of amplification can send and detect G-string vibrations far better than a single caster. It is possible for a single caster to achieve the same effect just by oscillating between the different nodes themselves, since the trick works in the first place by giving the Thinkamancer more perspective.

Thinkamancer/Croakamancer+Arkenpliers

Casters involved

Abilities

  • See through the eyes of decrypted units, including ones that do not have Natural Thinkamancy specials.
  • Communicate with decrypted, regardless of imprisoned status, in a very similar way to a Thinkagram.
  • Assist decrypted prisoners in escape.
  • See the strings that attune the owner of an Arkentool and bind them to their Arkentool's favored units.

Circumstances of Dissolution

  • Broken by Wanda's emotional shock in spite of Maggie's best efforts.
  • Fatigue, but no serious damage.

Thinkamancer/Croakamancer+Arkenpliers

Casters involved

Abilities

  • Able to enter Lilith's Thinkspace.
  • Able to "decrypt" mental defences (back) to their own side.
  • Able to break the g-string used to enforce the prisoner mechanic, repatriating them.
  • Able to bolster a unit's will.

Circumstances of Dissolution

  • After getting into an argument with Maggie, Wanda forcefully terminated the linkup, incapacitating Maggie and leaving her one turn from croaking barring Healomancy.

Arkendish

The Arkendish can perform the role of a thinkamancer in managing caster links. All of the known examples were controlled by Charlie. Many of them had effects comparable to three-caster linkups, with Charlie providing Carnymancy. It is unknown whether these links were broken with the aid of another thinkamancer (perhaps an Archon?) or if Arkendish links are safer to self-dissolve. Alternately, some of them may have operated in two-caster "copilot" fashion without adding Charlie's own magic. Only the Titans (and Charlie) know for sure.

Carnymancer+Arkendish/Dirtamancer

Casters involved

Abilities

  • Was able to create a magic item called a wonky wrench. This magic item allows a Dirtamancer to apply Carnymancy to their Dirtamancy, allowing for things impossible to normal Dirtamancy, such as digging through and creating bedrock.
  • Was able to route traps to the city of Charlescomm's portal room, a feat most Dirtamancers didn't even know was possible.

Carnymancer+Arkendish/Dollamancer

Casters involved

Abilities

  • Was able to steal the design of Gobwin Knob's Toy Soldier minus the veil.
  • Was able to subvert said toy soldier's orders, though it is worth mentioning this is a normal if secret and juice intensive ability of Thinkamancy.

Carnymancer+Arkendish/Florist/?

Casters involved

  • Charlie
  • Olive Branch
  • There may have also been multiple linkups with casters from other disciplines involved, since the very focus of their research was in how to emulate other disciplines, and the Arkendish allowed for safe two-caster linkups without a Thinkamancer.

Abilities

Carnymancer+Arkendish/Healomancer

Casters involved

Abilities

  • Kept Wanda alive from the effects of the heroine buds. While they were unable to "cure" her and treat her addiction, they were able to augment her resolve to resist it.
  • Reduced Jillian's dependency on the heroine buds.
  • Destroyed a fragment of Jillian's personality, the Jester, and remade her mind in their own image.

Carnymancer+Arkendish/Signamancer

Casters involved

Abilities

  • Created a powerful contract called a "Deal of a Lifetime". This contract is unbreakable for both parties by anything save croaking. Faq was bound to protect Charlie's secrets, while Charlie was bound to keep Faq's existence a secret and never attack them. Even speaking of Charlie's secrets in vague ways carries a physical penalty. Nevertheless, after Jack's decryption, he was able to spill the beans.

Carnymancer+Arkendish/Turnamancer

Casters involved

Abilities

  • The first ranged link-up shown in canon, most likely due to the power of the Arkendish. It placed severe mental strain on Charlie, making him unable to broadcast to other Archons during the link. He did manage to send a terse thinkagram to King Slately, which risked breaking the link.
  • Forcing a side to end their turn early. This was a surprise to both Jetstone and Gobwin Knob, so it's unlikely regular Turnamancy can do this, even with a master-class caster.
  • Cost two turns' worth of juice; this implies that Charlie shared some of the juice cost, which may or may not be a normal function of a caster link. Alternatively, it may mean that it used up juice while it was still Gobwin Knob's turn and left Vanna drained even after the Royal Coalition's turn began.

Circumstances of Dissolution

Carnymancer+Arkendish/Turnamancer

Casters involved

Abilities

  • Binding arbitration spell, placing the minds of the casters and target into a fighting game. The casters and target then proceed to try and exhaust one another's will power. The ultimate aim of the spell is to use "strongarm negotiation" on natural allies, coercing them into changing sides.
  • Vanna had to touch Vurp to cast the spell. As earlier, Charlie was connected remotely via the Arkendish.

Circumstances of Dissolution

  • Quickly broken by Charlie, with the sound effect "SCRUB". Vanna suffered a headache.

Three Casters

Triple caster linkups allow the combination of multiple disciplines, creating powerful spells that no single caster could even dream of doing on their own. They are much more dangerous than two-caster links, and usually require the assistance of an outside thinkamancer to break the link safely. Self-broken triple links have caused severe damage to some or all of the casters involved.

Thinkamancer/Croakamancer/Dirtamancer

Casters involved

Abilities

  • Inspired the creation of memorial stones.

Thinkamancer/Croakamancer/Dirtamancer

Casters involved

Abilities

Circumstances of Dissolution

  • Unraveled by five Thinkamancers, at least one master-class, without negative effects.

Thinkamancer/Croakamancer/Turnamancer

Casters involved

Abilities

  • Created a box of tricks, a Magic Item that can be used for all sorts of creative torture on a captive in order to interrogate or turn them.

Thinkamancer/Dirtamancer/Dollamancer

Casters involved

Abilities

  • Could theoretically apply motion to matter, animating it with golem mechanisms on a far larger scale than a Dirtamancer or Dollamancer could do on their on. But due to confirming that the target could not accept motion, this ability was not used.
  • Using Sizemore's understanding of the Dirtamancy, Maggie was able to identify a part of the Tower of Jenga that was manipulable by Thinkamancy. She gave or awakened in it a form of consciousness. Ace and Sizemore then combined their golem-making and city-shaping powers to let the tower choose a form for itself, as long as it conformed to Stanley's wishes. This gave the tower a will, intelligence, and an unknown set of elemental powers, allowing it to protect the city in an autonomous manner. The tower was later named Jed the Head.

Thinkamancer/Dollamancer/Foolamancer

Casters involved

Abilities

Thinkamancer/Dollamancer/Lookamancer

Casters involved

  • Maggie
  • Ace Hardware
  • Isaac Cipher (as a Lookamancer)
  • Notably, this is the first linkup shown to have a caster use a discipline other than his native. Isaac, a master-class Thinkamancer and Lookamancer provided the Lookamancy. Nevertheless, despite his mastery of Thinkamancy, Maggie was needed to facilitate the link.

Abilities

Thinkamancer/Florist/Turnamancer

Casters involved

Abilities

  • Created the initial Heroine buds. The buds appear to be fertile, so future production did not require a link.

  • Broken by Maggie upon order of Stanley the Tool.
  • Maggie protected herself from the backlash.
  • Jack Snipe was incapacitated, and driven insane until his name was spoken by Jillian.
  • Misty croaked.

Thinkamancer/Foolamancer/Predictamancer

Casters involved

Abilities

  • Allows the Predictamancer to predict where to hit even with veiled units and to transmit this knowledge to other units by displaying arrows indicating where to shoot. Also allows the Predictamancer to display where shots will be fired.
  • The Thinkamancer's concentration and Foolamancer's observation makes it possible for the Predictamancer to select more targets than she would be able to do otherwise.

Circumstances of Dissolution

  • Ended by Maggie running out of juice, incapacitating Maggie and Jack and weakening Marie.

Unknown/Carnymancer/Weirdomancer

Casters involved

  • Unknown Thinkamancer (probably the Arkendish)
  • Unknown Carnymancer (probably Charlie)
  • Unknown Weirdomancer

Abilities

  • Crafted a Dismiss Perfect Warlord scroll capable of dispelling the Summon Perfect Warlord Spell. It works by using Weirdomancy to interfere with the bind the spell uses to keep the Perfect Warlord in Erfworld, flinging said warlord back home.
  • Enchanted a scroll to break the rule that non-casters cannot use scrolls. Any non-caster who attempts to use the scroll will temporarily unlock caster sense, allowing them to perceive, decipher, and cast the magic in said scroll.

Four Casters

Four caster links are considered to be impossible, yet one spell is said to involve four caster disciplines.

Second Casting

Abilities

  • Summon Perfect Warlord Spell, which summoned Judy Gale (first casting) and Parson Gotti (second casting).
  • It remains unknown whether all 4 casters were actually linked up all at once; perhaps the spell was performed in multiple steps. Several living casters know the details, so an explanation may be revealed later.

Five or More Thinkamancers

The Great Minds that Think Alike have discovered there are up to eleven levels of Thinking Alike. Levels 2 and 3 are links with 2 or 3 casters, while levels 5-7 are called Trance fusion. Levels 8-11 were long considered theoretical.
